A Temperature Composition of the Artic
24×30 in, Oil on Wood. I ponder on what a painting of environmental change of the arctic looks like? The Arctic is warming three times as fast and the global average. The melting of snow and ice exposes a darker surface and increases the amount of solar energy absorbed. This significant regional warming leads to continued loss of sea ice, melting of glaciers and ice caps. Polar bears rely heavily on sea ice for traveling, hunting, resting and mating. I wanted to create a moving representation of the warming of the permafrost, decrease in snow cover, shrinking of glaciers, and disappearing of sea ice. I wanted the movement in the piece to represent this continuous change, a battle of cool and warm and the chaos of complex changes.

Passing Ice Paradise
(36″×60″ Acrylic on canvas) Orcas are found in all oceans including the Arctic and Antarctic regions. I imagined a beautiful Antarctic icescape with towering glaciers containing crevasses, seracs, and tunnels, visited by a large family of orcas.

Torch of Liberty
(36″ x 48″ oil on panel) During the long human struggle for existence, freedom has been rare, and its triumphs have fallen upon just the minorities that prevailed. No obstacle has been so constant throughout history. From the first gathering of ancient people to the modern political complexity of our time, the natural drive embedded in our genes for liberty is not always apparent. It is a momentous step in the progress of the principle that every interest should have the right and the means of asserting itself, and to commit to the republican principles of individual liberty and equality. Regardless of when, who, or where, lighting the torch of liberty comes from the fire that burns from within, and those with the relentless determination will ensure that the torch stays lit.
Becoming Liberty and Justice for All
(36″ x 60″, oil on canvas). The world is in the continuous state of impermanence and fragility of the human experience. We dream of a liberty goddess lighting the torch of freedom that wears a crown, symbolic of the seven continents and seas. The brightness of the flame carries far and wide and reaches every corner of humanity. However, there exists this unthinkable space in terms of the rule of law, human rights and democracy, that fails to apply to everyone. Liberty is still young, and there is much to learn and much needed improvement before the torch can be bright and strong. There still exists much inequality and injustice that surround us in the need of attention and action before our liberty goddess can represent liberty and justice for all. It is a work in progress.

Water Ballet
(24″ x 36″, oil on wood)
The musical colors change under the sunset as the three synchronously pursue a moving star. The harmony between man and nature gives us pause. With wakeful eyes, we see a ballet that is an illusionary reflection of what our souls most desire.
